ELECTRONIC ID & CITIZEN CENTRIC ADMINISTRATION | AN OASIS WORKSHOP ON E-GOVERNMENT
Thursday, 1 May
9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Good e-government starts from the citizen's eye view, not the bureaucrat's needs. Many expensive e-government investments have failed to deliver - we have good information online, but this adds up to "i-government". To quote from / The Economist, "The citizen-centered perspective is short-hand for the good point - so far largely ignored in e-government design- that setting up new electronic systems only to mimic the old offline ones is a bit of a waste of time"[February 16 2008].
The OASIS eGov Workshop will put the spotlight on the citizen and the taxpayer, focusing on their needs and exploring the technology that can deliver real solutions based on open standards.

GREEN BUILDINGS ROUNDTABLE
OASIS is hosting a "Round Table" session discussing challenges in Green Buildings, Building Controls, Intelligent Power Grid, and demand management (including current issues in California utility power control). We're concentrating on challenges, not solutions. This will be an informal panel, led by industry experts, exposing challenges and opportunities for people skilled at the things OASIS works on, such as eCommerce, SOA, and related technologies. We're calling it a "Round Table" because it's not the same as a traditional panel discussion; it will be more interactive, and there are no prepared slides (but will likely be information to take with you).
Panelists include William Cox (OASIS Technical Advisory Board), Moderator; Rik Drummond (The Drummond Group); Toby Considine (OBIX, University of North Carolina); and Girish Ghatikar (Lawrence Berkeley Labs)
Come join us at 7:30 PM on Monday, April 28 in the Monterey Room for a chance to apply your skills to some new and interesting problems.
MEETINGS
* All meetings are complimentary and open to OASIS members only.
OASIS BOARD MEETING: OPEN TO MEMBERS
Thursday, 1 May and Friday, 2 May
VIEW AGENDA
All members are invited to attend the quarterly meeting of the OASIS Board of Directors. This meeting will be held in conjunction with the Symposium on 1-2 May. Specific times for the open Board sessions will be announced in the months to come.
This is an opportunity to observe the governance of the Consortium first-hand, appreciate the motivations and commitment of Board directors, and witness the dialogue informing the decisions that affect all members. An agenda for the meeting, which will include time for member questions and comments, may be found ONLINE. To ensure adequate space is allocated, members should indicate their intentions to attend the Board meeting on the Symposium registration form.
The open OASIS Board meeting represents another example of the channels created recently to facilitate greater member and public feedback. Members are encouraged to continue to use the Member-Discuss and OASIS-Board-Comment mail lists to share ideas and concerns with others and with the Board.
OASIS OPEN REPUTATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (ORMS) TC MEETING
The OASIS Open Reputation Management Systems (ORMS) TC, which advances the ability to use common data formats for representing reputation data, will meet after the Symposium program on Thursday, 1 May and Friday, 2 May. The meeting will take place 9:00 AM-5:00 PM each day. More details will be posted soon.

The Symposium Book Table will showcase these books at a display in the registration area. This is not a book sale, but an opportunity to give attendees a first-hand look at the range of available titles. A handout listing all books, including information on purchasing options, will be provided. Books will be on display during the Symposium and raffled off to attendees at the end of the event.
Authors, publishers, or collectors interested in donating books should contact events@oasis-open.org.
